Cycling and Pedestrian Resources
East Coast Greenway
www.greenway.org
The East Coast Greenway connects 15 states and 450 cities and towns for 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida. We are fostering a safe walking and biking route through the country’s most populated corridor.
League of American Bicyclists
www.bikeleague.org
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to bike for transportation, good health, and the pure joy and freedom it brings. Over the last 100 years, our communities and transportation system have been developed and designed primarily for automobiles, which has prioritized vehicle road space and speed over people’s safety and ability to get around without a car.
Palmetto Walk Bike (SC)
www.palmettowalkbike.com
We’re a statewide nonprofit working to make walking and biking safer and more accessible across South Carolina. We used to be called the Palmetto Cycling Coalition. Since 1995, we’ve helped communities build better streets, improve transportation policies, and connect people to the places they need to go. Whether you live in a small town or a big city, you deserve a safe way to get where you’re going.
People For Bikes
www.peopleforbikes.org
Every year, PeopleForBikes closely monitors hundreds of state legislative and regulatory issues in order to keep track of the national bicycling landscape. Tracking also allows our team to stay nimble and rally support around issues related to import topics, including infrastructure, recreation, and electric bicycles.
Rails To Trails Conservancy
www.railstotrails.org
Since 1986, RTC has worked to bring the power of trails to more communities across the country, serving as the national voice for the rail-trail movement. With more than 1 million grassroots supporters, 25,000+ miles of rail-trails on the ground nationwide and more than 9,000 miles of rail-trails ready to be built, our focus is on linking these corridors—creating trail networks that connect people and places, bringing transformative benefits to communities all across the country. Our flagship initiatives—the Great American Rail-Trail®, TrailNation™ and TrailLink.com™—bring that strategy to life, connecting millions of people by trail.
Spanish Moss Trail (Port Royal, SC)
www.spanishmosstrail.com
The Spanish Moss Trail ‒ The Lowcountry’s Rails to Trail ‒ is a 10-mile greenway located in Northern Beaufort County, South Carolina that has become a “Must-Experience” activity for residents and visitors alike. The Trail is a 12-foot wide, paved path dedicated to those who want to walk, run, bike, fish, skate, or stroll ‒ offering spectacular Lowcountry water and marsh views, coastal wildlife viewing, and historic points of interest as it meanders through Spanish moss-draped neighborhoods. Since 2012, five phases of the 10-Phase Master Plan have been completed and are open for public enjoyment, connecting the City of Beaufort and the Town of Port Royal. When the Trail is fully developed, it will be approximately 16 miles in length.
